Getting that Cinematic Look in your videos can be a beautiful thing. But, it’s hard to actually edit and get that look. Yes, there are ways to get that Letterbox look, but there can be issues when rendering your footage.

I spent some time this week trying to get that look when editing my footage with my DJI Spark Drone. I think I may have an easy tip for you to try. I used Camtasia Studio, but I’m sure there are ways to do this same process in almost any of the Better Video Editing Software out there.

Take a look at this information and see if it can get your videos up to the Next Level and have a nice looking, Cinematic Style that you can do without too much fuss.

Shure MVL Lavalier Lav Lapel Microphone Sound Test and Review

The Shure MVL Lav Mic is a Well Built and Great sounding Lavalier (lapel) microphone. But, it’s only supposed to be used while being plugged into a Smartphone.

Is there anyway around that? Take a look and see what we found out:

The Shure MVL Lavalier Microphone is one of new breed of Lav mics made for the Smartphone market. It comes with a TRRS Connector to plug into an iPhone or Android device. By using the Shure MOTIVE App you’ll be able to record your voice. It’s uses include recording, say, a groom at a wedding. Connect the MVL to your smartphone, clip it to the groom’s lapel, turn on the MOTIV app, and record the ceremony. Neat!

This video is about connecting the Shure MVL Lav Mic to a Zoom H1 audio recorder.

According to the specs, it’s an omnidirectional condenser microphone with exceptional signal-to-noise ratio.

It comes with: the MVL Lav Microphone, Tie clip, Foam Windscreen, Leatherette carry case, manuals and box.

It can be purchased from many good suppliers like: B&H Photo, Adorama, zZounds, Sweetwater Sound, Sam Ash and other electronic, guitar and music suppliers.

Equipment used in this video:
Sony a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 16-55mm Zoom Lens, Shure MVL Lavalier Microphone, Sennheiser ME66 shotgun microphone with K6 Power Module, LED Lighting along with CF Bulbs, Manfrotto Tripod, Radio Shack TRRS female split to 2-TRS male adapter, Zoom H1 Digital Recorder, Sandisk 16GB Micro SD Card, PNY 64GB SD Card, Camtasia Studio 8 Video Editing Software, Handbrake File Conversion software and one dancing Teddy Bear.

The adapter that I used is a Radio Shack TRRS Female to Double Male TRS Connectors. I purchased it at Radio Shack. It’s called a Radio Shack “Headset to Mobile PC Adapter.” Item Number 4200837 See URL http://tinyurl.com/zbu4z5t

Better Audio for your Digital SLR DSLR Video Camera

Having trouble getting good audio with your DSLR Camera? It’s not uncommon.

I had 2 Lavalier (lapel) microphones laying around that were for my iPhone or Android style smartphone. They both have pretty good sound when connected to my smartphone.

I wondered if I could connect them to my Canon 60D DSLR Camera. The problem was that the two Lav Mics that I had have a TRRS Connector that plugs into a smartphone. My DSLR has a TRS connector for the microphone input jack.

So, I found an adapter and an extension cable and gave it a try.

I think you might find my results interesting.

Two Lavalier microphones used were:

-Shure MVL Lavalier Mic

-Gora Lav Mic

Also used:

-Radio Shack 1/8 inch (3.5mm) TRRS Female to Double 1/8 inch (3.5mm) TRS Male Adapter cable
-TRS FemaleExtension cable

3 Point Video Lighting System for Less Than $60 For The Sony A6000??

I wanted to see if I could find lights that would work for shooting Video on my Sony A6000 for under $60. So, I made it a quest to see if that was possible. What I found out was very interesting.

Can it be done for under $60?
Even if it can be done, what will the light look like?

Check out this video and see my results:

Items used for the Lighting:
3 – Clamp-on Shop Lights from Home Depot
3 – Cree 60 Watt equivalent Soft White LED Light Bulbs
3 – Small Sheets of Waxed Paper
3 – Small Pieces of Electrical Tape

Sony A6000 Camera Settings:
-Mode Dial (Top of Camera) Set to=Manual (M)
-1080p High Definition, AVCHD
-60 Frames Per Second
-1/125 Per Second Shutter Speed
-Aperture F5.0
-Sony 18-55mm Lens Zoomed to 30mm
-ISO 2000
-Tungsten White Balanced to 2700 Degrees Kelvin
-Continuous Focus
-Focus Area=Center
-Creative Style=Standard Setting, Contrast Set To +1
-Metering Mode=Center
-Steady Shot (Image Stabilization)=Off

The cost of this lighting did NOT include stands to hold the lights. Because Clip-On Lights were used, I figured they could be clipped to stationary items in the home like: Bookshelves, Ceiling Joists (basement) or Roof Rafters, etc.
